Al Madina A’Zarqa (Blue City)

Master Plan Development
Sultanate of Oman

In June 2007 Edifice was appointed by Al Sawadi Investment and Tourism to coordinate design and project management for the development of the master plan for the Al Madina A’Zarqa (Blue City) project in Oman.  The assignment included the selection and appointment of a global-leading and award-winning consultant to develop the overall master plan, overseeing the implementation and delivery of the concept master plan, infrastructure, landscape planning and zoning program. Edifice recommended the selection of Foster+Partners to Al Sawadi Investment and Tourism.

Edifice together along with Foster+Partners and a consortium of local and international consultants embarked on an initiative to build a model city, half the size of Manhattan, aiming to preserve the rich legacy of the Islamic culture and Omani heritage with an urban vision. The overall components of this project were to be residential, commercial, retain units and tourist resorts along with the development of economic clusters to support this new community.

The project completion is due to span over 15 years at a capital cost of 15-20 billion US dollars.
